BASKETBALL FOR YEARS 4 & 5 AT PRIMARY SCHOOL.

The ISS will be providing a range of programs for years 4 & 5 at primary schools to learn to play the sport of basketball

When?

Each School Holidays and during terms 3 & 4 each year


School Holidays: will operate Monday to Friday for the 2 weeks of each vacation (usually 10 days)


Session time: 9am to 11am

The ISS is an Active Kids provider. Where a child cannot obtain an Active Kids voucher please contact Ian Richardson on 0411 451 863 Mondays and Thursdays only between 9.00am and 12noon


Afterschool - terms 3 & 4

Session times:  4pm to 6pm for 10 weeks

Equipment available:

All training equipment is provided as well as facilities for games.

AT THE END OF THE SESSIONS/TEN WEEKS CHILDREN WILL BE PUT IN TEAMS, WHICH IT IS HOPED WILL BE SCHOOL BASED, THEY THEN WILL BE


Linked with the local Illawarra Basketball Associations junior basketball competitions and assisted in the first few weeks of those programs.


Linked with an in-house ISS junior basketball program 


Teams will be of 7 players so all children get appropriate game time.


At the end of each year the ISS will assist school teams will be encouraged to enter into the state primary schools knockout program for earlier the following year.


The focus of these programs will be school based. The ISS is currently preparing documentation for the Regional Office of Education seeking approval to conduct these programs through primary schools in Wollongong and nearby suburbs.


The ISS will visit interested primary schools to assist with the development program and explain how the program will assist children to become involved in the team sport of Basketball.


In addition to the 10 sessions/weeks children will be invited to practice or shooting around each Saturday and a Sunday when the Stadium is available at no additional cost.

Note: children in years 3 & 6 who have a strong interest in this program may participate on the understanding the program has been developed for years 4 & 5 


There is no limit to the number of children wishing to participate

Eligibility


If you’re a parent, carer or guardian, the student will be eligible if they are:


  • a NSW resident
  • aged between 4.5 and 18 years
  • enrolled in school (from Kindergarten to Year 12, including those who are home-schooled or enrolled in secondary school education at TAFE NSW)
  • a current Medicare card holder.


You can apply for a voucher for each eligible student. You can use the voucher for registration, participation or membership costs with an approved Active Kids provider.
